When the time came to say goodbye to Ryan Jessen, his family knew there was one friend who had to be included.
His loyal dog Mollie.
Ryan suffered a brain haemorrhage aged just 33 and by the time he got to hospital, doctors said he couldn’t be saved.
As his parents and sister Michelle gathered themselves to pay their final respects, they knew someone was missing.
Fortunately, the hospital kindly allowed Mollie to be brought in and Michelle captured this heartbreaking video as she licked her owner one last time.
Ryan Jessen suffered a sudden brain haemorrhage and was rushed to hospital.
Michelle wrote in a Facebook post: “The hospital did the sweetest thing for us and allowed us to bring my brother’s dog in to ‘say goodbye’ so she’d know why her human never came home.
“If you knew my brother, he really loved his sweet dog.”
“We are sincerely touched and humbled by others’ stories, their sharing in our sadness and the kindness of so many people.
“Don’t worry about the dog! We’re keeping her!!! She’s part of the family.”
She later added that Ryan’s heart had been donated and is due to save the life of a 17-year-old boy in time for Christmas.
Rideout Memorial Hospital did the sweetest thing for us and allowed us to bring my brother's dog in to "say goodbye" so she'd know why her human never came home. If you knew my brother, he really loved his sweet dog. (So many people have asked – He thought he had a migraine, but it was a ventricular brain hemorrhage. They think it was brought on by high blood pressure, and there's speculation that his frequent consumption of energy drinks may have contributed. THANK YOU to everybody for the outpouring of support, but I won't be responding anymore. We are sincerely touched and humbled by others' stories, their sharing in our sadness and the kindness of so many people. Don't worry about the dog! We're keeping her!!! She's part of the family.)
